Now that working out in the mornings is my new favorite routine, I’m always looking for easy and tasty recovery breakfasts.
This morning, after I taught the 6AM class at Biker Barre, I came home and made this delicious smoothie. It’s refreshing and packed with nutrients to aid in recovery. One of the most important things to eat after a hard workout is protein. Protein gives the body the amino acids necessary to rebuild muscles that were damaged during exercise. Plus, protein helps with satiety and prevents you from getting hangry later in the day 😉
Although the sugar content in this smoothie is high (26g!) 14g are coming from fruit. Natural sugar tops high fructose corn syrup or added sugars any day.
And 19g of protein? Yahoo! My muscles are thanking me already. And let’s not forget about the blueberries – hello, antioxidants and a lot of other great stuff.
I wish you could have seen me this morning – dog and phone in one hand, this mason jar in another, and a straw in my mouth…all walking down the streets of Capitol Hill while trying to check my email. We live in an age of multitasking, right?
